What you need
An iPhone, a car and a small Bluetooth adapter.
| Phone | iPhone on iOS 26 or later. |
|---|---|
| Car | Any car with an OBD-II port: most petrol cars from 2001 and diesels from 2004 (US: 1996). |
| Adapter | Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). See below. |
Adapters we've verified
| Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE) | Amazon UK · Vgate store · Vgate |
| ACAVICA Mini Bluetooth OBD II Scanner | Amazon UK · ACAVICA store |
Other BLE adapters should work too; we just haven't tested them.
Will mine work?
| Kind | How to tell | Works? |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi | Makes its own Wi-Fi network. | No |
| Bluetooth (Classic) | Pairs in Settings, often with a PIN. | No |
| Bluetooth Low Energy | Says "BLE" or "Low Energy". | Yes |
- Don't pair it in Settings. OBDTrip finds it by itself.
- Bluetooth 4.0 or later, but look for "BLE": the version number alone doesn't prove it.
More: why it has to be BLE.
